ProctorFree Launches Desktop Application 5.0.0 with AI-Assisted Proctoring
ProctorFree's new release introduces a redesigned exam launch process and AI-assisted proctoring with human oversight, enhancing remote testing reliability.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CHARLOTTE, NC – August 31, 2026 –
ProctorFree, a provider of online proctoring and exam security solutions, today announced the release of ProctorFree Desktop Application 5.0.0, a major milestone in the company's mission to make secure, remote testing more reliable and more human. The release, part of ProctorFree's August 2026.8.0 update, introduces a completely redesigned system compatibility check and exam launch process, along with the initial rollout of AI Assisted Proctoring with Human-in-the-Loop review.
"Reaching this product version and milestone is more than a number for us. It represents years of listening to partners, clients, and test taking candidates about what makes exam day stressful, and building a platform and service that attempts to remove friction" said Mike Murphy, CEO at ProctorFree.
A redesigned exam launch experience
Desktop Application 5.0.0 introduces a ground-up redesign of the system check and launch process test takers encounter before every exam. The update delivers clearer, more actionable error handling and step-by-step instructions, reducing friction and confusion at one of the most critical moments in the testing experience. ProctorFree is encouraging its partner institutions to have test takers update to the new version and complete a practice exam ahead of their next high-stakes test.
AI Assisted Proctoring, with a human always in the loop
The release also marks ProctorFree's continued efforts toward incorporating artificial intelligence into its proctoring review process, introduced deliberately, and always with human oversight. Under the new AI Assisted Proctoring with Human-in-the-Loop review capability, video and screenshots from a proctoring session are first analyzed by ProctorFree's system. That analysis is then passed to ProctorFree's team of trained human reviewers, who further examine, confirm, and edit any flagged anomalies before they are reflected in final reporting.
The capability is opt-in: it is not enabled by default, and individual partner institutions choose whether to activate it for their programs. ProctorFree confirmed that video, audio, and screenshot data captured during proctoring sessions is not used to train its models, and that the feature is being made available to partners at no additional cost at this time.
"We’re extremely proud to offer a solution that delivers on partners' desires for enhanced analysis while focusing on test taker privacy and data protections at the heart of our approach." said Harrison Turley, CTO & Chief of Staff at ProctorFree.
Continued investment in the platform
The 5.0.0 release follows a series of recent platform updates, including a Non-Proctored Secure Browser offering a secure exam environment without proctoring data capture (April 2026), optional in-browser translation support for the ProctorFree Secure Browser (June 2026), and automatic minute-by-minute data syncing for ProctorFree's Moodle integration (July 2026). ProctorFree also added a timer to its Audit Review Portal, giving reviewers greater visibility into expected audit completion times.
The August 2026.8.0 release, including Desktop Application 5.0.0, goes into effect August 31, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. ET, with no downtime or service interruption expected.
